If you select the object and choose "Custom Animation"
from the "Slide Show" pull down menu you will access all
of PowerPoints animation functions which can be applied
to that object. In XP there is a setting for "Blink"
under the "Emphasis" tab when you click on the "Add
Effect" button. This animation will make the selected
object flash according to parameters you can set in the
effect options dialogue box (small pulldown menu next to
the objects name in the animation panel). It doesn't,
however, change the colors at all and merely flashes the
entire object. If you want to falsh the colors, I can
suggest a trick that may work:
1) Create the object in one color scheme and place it
where you want it on the slide.
2) Create the same object with a new color scheme and
place it directly over the first object, hiding it.
3) Apply the "Blink" animation to the second object (the
one on top).
Now when the top object blinks "off" the alternate color
scheme beneath will show, giving the effect that the
color is flashing.
Obviously, you may have to alter this plan to accomodate
the specifics of your project (as well as the particular
version of PowerPoint that you're using) but I think if
you understand the theory you should be able to make it
work for you. I hope that helps somewhat.

Thanks, but I have PowerPoint97. What version has
this "Emphasis" tab that you're talking about?

The Emphasis Animations are only available in version 2002/xp. In PPT 97 to
emulate this effect, you could use the "Appear" animation, set it to
"Disappear after animation" and repeat this as often as you want your object
to flash.
