Got a new harddrive and don't want to migrate the old install, but want to
keep the old install going for as long as it might last.

Want a fresh install on the new drive.

Can I have two installs of this op system simultaneously? (Bios lets me
choose which drive to boot.)

TIA !

That's been a source of debate for a long time. The License Agreement says
* Installation and use. You may install, use, access,
display and run one copy of the Product on a single
computer, such as a workstation, terminal or other device
("Workstation Computer").

see http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/eula.txt

The EULA says one copy on a single computer and you are proposing to install
two copies on a single computer so the answer to your question appears to be
no.

Temporarily disconnect the old drive, and install on the new drive.
Activate XP on the new installation. When done, reconnect the old drive.

That method worked for me when migrating from Win2K to XP, retaining the
ability to use the Win2K drive as an emergency boot drive.
