i bought the upgrade, and i want to make sure that i can
install it on more than one of my home computers. i had
to activate the xp through the net, if i remember
correctly, and i don't want some kind of problem to pop
up.

when reading the paperwork that came with the xp, it
sounds as if you are limited to one computer.

Just one computer for the XP operating system. Since this is the upgrade CD
it is a regular retail license. That means you can *move* the installation
to another PC in the future if you want to (install on new PC and remove XP
from old PC).

that sounds like a pain in the rear. i'll look around
the site to see if i can figure out how to do what you
suggest. thanks.

Not hard to do at all. Install XP on the new computer. Barring any
different configuration differences for the new system, the install will
proceed the same as it did the first time.

On old computer, uninstall XP. If it was installed as an upgrade and the
option to revert to old operating system was retained, use it. Otherwise,
prepare the hard drive and install a different operating system.

When it comes time for activation on the new machine (you don't have to do
this right away but do it within the allowed time limit displayed on the
screen), try it over the internet first. If it does not go through, call
the number that pops up on the screen. If asked, tell them you have moved
that copy of XP to a new machine and uninstalled it from the old. They'll
give you the numbers needed to activate. All done.
