Sorry, I just noticed that my message filter was "marking as read" all
messages with OT ( a long time ago I had entered " OT " as in Off Topic
but it dropped the spaces), SO I was missing all of the previous
messages in here regarding the new boot manager.( BOOT contains OT) I
modified my rules - marked "BOOT" messages as unread, and I'm off to
read those - perhaps the question has already been asked / answered.

Found no answer there either, but by trial and error of keywords, I
think I got my answer at msft website:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919529/en-us which states:
"When you install an earlier version of the Windows operating system on
a Windows Vista-based computer, Setup overwrites everything from the
MBR, the boot sector, and the boot files. Therefore, the earlier version
the Windows operating system loses forward compatibility with Windows
Vista."

So it seems that I CAN install SBS2003 on E and still have my SATA drive
boot XP and SBS2003. THEN install Vista to its on IDE drive (H) - sound
right ?

I have SATA drive with 3 partitions XP on C , d=common library, E=old
copy of XP (both XP's bootable from windows boot.ini menu)and Vista
5308 on its own drive (H). I just downloaded the latest beta 2 for
x64, so I need to reinstall vista anyway. I still "haven't gotten it"
for the Vista boot loader - how does it interact/affect other OS'es (?)
, SO ... I have SBS beta in another PC on its own NTFS drive , but it's
too slow. I'd like to move that SBS drive to my x64 XP pc and THEN
reinstall Vista beta on it's own drive.

Can I :
1. pick up and move SBS drive here and have it boot ? by messing with
boot.ini ? BCE ?
2. if not can I install SBS here on that sata drive (E) without blowing
up the
"Vista, XP boot" on my XP drive ?
And then install Vista to the same (separate) drive that it's currently
on.

Thanks very much.

I am not sure but Virtual server is free! Kick your RAM up to 4GB and run VS
in your host OS and run all the others as Virtual machines.

Andre,

I did visit but found no boot loader info related to order/conflicts.
Is my C drive mbr OK to do install SBS right now ?

On my boot drive I have menu for
Vista 5308 , then 'legacy' calls Xp menu - 1=XP on C, 2= old XP on E
Vista 5308 is on separate drive (H) right now.
I'd like to leave XP on C, install SBS on E and then reinstall Vista on
H
Can I install SBS on E after having Vista on this PC and then have the
legacy boot menu look like :
1. = XP on C , 2=SBS on E
I'll then install Vista 5384 on H.

OH FOR PITY'S SAKE, you may have missed Franks message, just delete all the
partitions, install XP64, Virtual Server and a bit of RAM and run your
additional OS's in VS.

HINT: If you really want to keep those existing installs you CAN, by
migrating them to VS emulated machines.

I'm not sure of the status of VS running on Vista, or whether you really
wish to run a BETA OS as your primary OS, but when the stage is set I'll be
looking for 64b hardware to do exactly this thing.

OK, OK

I wasn't sure about procedure of removing Vista boot info - would XP
then still boot ?
Per Andre, I installed Vistaboot Pro and used it to remove Vista as if
not there, so back to pre-Vista boot and XP works fine.
Now I'll start SBS2003 install again
then x64 XP , then x64 Vista again
Thank you all.
