I purchased Dreamweaver 2, but it will not run under XP Home... Can I install and run '95 or '98 on my Gateway 400VTX that came with XP Home?

I'm sure that you could do this but there are some serious
disadvantages to downgrading to 9x over XP. To start with, USB is
going to be problematic. Some of the new devices out there won't work
on 9x. Lastly, there are huge security gains with XP over 9x.

When you try to run DW2, what error message do you get? Have you
tried to run the application in Compatability Mode?

Have you tried installing or running Dreamweaver 2 with XP's Compatibility
wizard? That might work nicely. If the problem is with the Dreamweaver setup
program then simply right click the setup file and select
Properties->Compatibility Tab and select Windows 98 or Windows 2000. If the
program install but won't run then try right clicking on it's shortcut in
Programs and select the Properties->Compatibility Tab and try another OS.
Sometimes that's all you need to do.

If the system is still under warranty you might need to consult with Gateway
to see if removing XP Home will void tech support. You will also likely need
to ensure you have downloaded win98 drivers for your hardware. Windows 98
will, of course, not have drivers for hardware created long after it was
released. If you have a choice do not bother installing Windows 95 go with
Windows 98 SE if you must.

you can have a try using Compatability Mode, then select an OS on which it
can work properly
