Hi,
I have a dual-boot system, with Windows 98 booting from C: and Windows
2000 booting from D:. However, a video driver I attempted to install
under 2000 seems to have screwed up my registry to the point where the
system hangs during normal boot, and blue-screens during safe-mode boot.
"Last known" configuration behaves identically to normal boot - hangs
with the 2000 logo on screen and the progress bar roughly halfway
across, with the disk drive light on full and constant.
I am an experienced registry tinkerer and would like to have a go at
fixing the 2000 registry before I give up and reinstall (losing all
settings would be a major headache). However, I cannot boot from the
Windows 2000 CD (to perform a repair) since my BIOS does not support
booting from CD. Windows 98 boots just fine from C:.
What I'd like to know is: is there any way I can edit the Windows 2000
registry on the D: drive on this system while booting Windows 98 from
the C: drive? 98's Regedit does not appear to be able to access the 2000
registry (there's no way to open it that I can tell). None of the 3rd
party registry editors I've tried (Reghance, Registrar Lite) seem to
offer this ability either.
If anyone can help me out here, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
-- Jeff
