I can leave my dialup connection open without starting IE
6 for any length of time and do not have a problem with it
diconnecting. After I open my browser I will get
disconnected in anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes.
This happens every time I connect to my ISP. I have called
them and they tell me the problem is on my side. My wifes
computer does not have this problem using the same ISP. I
don't think it is the modem as it will not disonnect from
my dialup service as long as I do not open my browser.
This is getting frustrating as I can not complete any of
the download security patches that I need on one
connection. This problem started about a month ago. I have
Norton System Works 2003 installed for virus protection
and have scanned and am up to date. I have an intel modem
and my system tells me I have the latest drivers for it.
Any help would be appreciated.

After downloading the latest virus definition table for your program and
having run it look for parasites.

IE 6.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware

and:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

If you are actually downloading something, you shouldn't be
disconnected. However, you might check this area:
control panel \ internet options \ connections \ settings \ advanced
See what you have under the two disconnect options, perhaps clear both
(at least temporarily), then okay your way out. Reboot.

Many people advise stopping your antivirus protection before
downloading Microsoft updates.
