Can I delete older updates?

I have several Java updates (numbered 2-7) that are using nearly 700 MB of
disk space. Plus I have security updates for Windows Media Player (both 10
and 11) and a ton of other security updates for Windows itself. Can I just
keep the most recent update and delete the others? If so, how can I tell
which is the most recent and the one(s) to keep.

Thanks.

Thank you, Mark, for that quick reply.

Yes, you can delete any update you don't want. You have the 'recommended'
set offered by Windows Update. You can go to the Microsoft Knowledge Base
article referenced by number to read about each one.

Why did you tell the OP he can delete windows Security Updates???????????????
You are supposed to be an MVP!

You can delete earlier Java ones.
Do not delete Windows security updates.
You can delete their Uninstallers, after making a backup to disk of them.

Because he asked if he could. I told him what was 'recommended', as should
you.

Mick

Because you can delete them. But the OP cannot delete the installed Updates later if needed if he removes them from C:\.Windows\$hf_mig$. All the MS Updates that are listed in C:\Windows can be deleted for many reasons by the OP. One of them is to save space.

"and a ton of other security updates for Windows itself"

I don't care what you say.
You are telling him to delete the above; that is BAD advice.

"and a ton of other security updates for Windows itself"

Peter, he is asking about Security updates for Windows.
The answer is: NO

By NO, I mean that it is totally the WRONG message that is being sent to the
OP.
The advice should be NOT to delete windows Security updates.
Or, are you going to pay to fix his computer when it gets corrupted.

I advised him to delete the Unistallers to gain Disk space.

Try:
JavaRa at http://raproducts.org/
It's a neat little free utility that removes all remnants of Java. I used
it and it worked easy. Just unzip it and run it.

You are reading what you want it to say. Nothing I said told him to delete
them. Go back and read it. I said he 'Can', not 'Should'. This is another
case of you looking for a fight. I have tried to avoid adding you to my
killfile, but this is, unfortunately, it. Your meaningless attacks are a
waste of my time. Plonk!

I could not give a big rat's ass what you do.

And, I am reading what the OP wrote.
Your trouble is that you can not be bothered reading a COMPLETE post.
You are just plain lazy, and giving dangerous information to the OP.!
