Can I create an icon for use on the taskbar?

Is it possible to create a customized icon for use on the
taskbar? I have shortcuts to specific folders but I want
to be able to differentiate between them without having
to remember which logo I chose from the list. I am
interested in simply creating a file containing initials
or something.
