I'd like to know if there is a way to change the display
format for phone numbers in outlook contacts (running
outlook 2002).

I'd like to go from (xxx)yyy-zzzz to xxx-yyy-zzzz or
xxx.yyy.zzz

Any hints?

Thanks,
-rog.

Russ,
This is a real bummer. I was looking forward to changing
this characteristic also. Thanks for the information.

Roger,
I was using a Palm based PDA and had all the telephone
numbers entered in my preferred format of ###.###.####.
Then I purchased a Pocket PC 2002 PDA and wanted to
transfer the contact list from the Palm to the PPC. I
transferred my Palm contacts to outlook. All of the
telephone numbers I had entered on my Palm in this format
stayed in this format. However, whenever I make a
telephone number change or add a new contact in Outlook or
my PPC, Outlook changes it to the (###)###-#### format.
Just thought I would share.

Masking of phone numbers is hard coded.

Since the masking of the number does not determine how the number is dialed,
it's not much of a limitation for most users. For people who need to synch
with a PDA or a phone that requires only a certain format, however, it's
definitely a limitation.
