I would like to put a journal entry in each contact automatically when i do a
mailing to a mailing to several contacts at the same time.

I would also like to be able to choose several contacts at once and
automatically assign them a new category or bulk update a certain field (ex.:
language)

Is this possible?

I can help you with the 2nd one:

bulk change by selecting a whole lot of people, right click and you can
change their Category

another way to bulk change is to Group By the field you want to change, then
drag people from the None group to the one you want them in.

I too am very interested in how to record journals during a mail merge (the
1st part of the original question).

Me, too. I don't want to have to add a category every time I do a mailing.
Journal entry seems like the most logical way to do it but I sure don't want
to manually enter journal entries for 1000 contacts and I can't figure a way
around it!

Did you ever get a solution to this? I would also like to be able to bulk
post a journal entry to the contacts that I have sent a merged letter.
