OK,
I have an existing internet connection which runs through the gateway
192.168.1.1, our backup solution is configured identically and upon our
main connection failing we unplug the network cable connected to the
LAN from the primary and plug it into the backup. This works fine,
however it would be good for it to be automatic.
I was wondering if I chanaged the backup to 192.168.1.2 then added it
to the list of gateways in the windows networking advanced
configuration tab would this provide a basic failover system should the
192.168.1.1 connection fail?
Also could this be configured to provide a very basic means of load
balancing between the connections? Does windows take the first gateway
from the list with the lowest metric value and ignore the others until
that gateway stops responding?
Thanks in advance experts,
Stuart
