Can I add a hard disk and expand a basic partition to use it?

We have a server that could use an additional hard disk and I was
wondering if there is a Win2k feature that allows you to basically
include the new hard drive as part of the exisitng D: partiton where
data is stored. So in effect, to users it's transparent, there's just
more space on the D: drive. Yet, on the server there are now 2 SCSI
hard disks (no RAID is being used).

Thank you

Not with basic disks. However, you could mount the new drive to a folder on
the existing drive - See this article - procedure is the same for Windows
2000:

Note the folder you mount to must be empty - you can backup the data, delete
the data, and then restore it after mounting the drive.

Thanks Doug...So if I do this:

~ Backup the entire D: drive on existing drive
~ Mount the new drive to the D: drive (note: root level)
~restore the data to the original drive

Will the net effect be:
~ there will be no perceived change to end users
~ no new mappings need take place
~ data that gets saved to the original D: will continue to grow and
then spill over to the new, larger drive?

Is this how will work?

thanks
