Can XP Home join a domain and access the network resources

You can't join XP Home Edition to a domain. However, you may have two
options to access the domain network resources. 1) Logon local machine using
a domain user account. 2) create a workgroup to match the domain name and
also use the domain user account to logon.

Hi, did you get an answer? I'm having the same problem,
how to set a domain access log in in a XP network.

Regards, Julian.

XP Home Edition can't join a domain or log into a domain. It can
connect to a domain and access domain resources. For details, please
see these sites:

Hi,

If you do the following, you can get access to some domain resources:
1. Set the workgroup of the XP Home machine to be identical to the
domain name (of the domain you wish to connect to).
2. Create a local account with a user name and password identical to
an existing account on the domain.

(See detailed information at
http://www.wown.info/j_helmig/wxphdoms.htm).

If you do that, you will be able to see the computers in the network,
and you'll be able to access shared folders that are defined on the
*domain controller* to which the account have permissions. You'll also
be able to use printers on the domain controller.

If you wish to access resources on other computers on the network,
you'll be asked for a username/password, and you'll have to re-enter
them every time.

I hope this helps, and in addition, I have a question:

The above procedure works well, however, it is kind of "tricky". I
couldn't find an official microsoft documentation for it. Does anyone
know whether it is "official" (or whether it is some side effect)? I'd
like to use it in a commercial environment for one of our products,
and I need to know whether I can expect it to be continued or
supported.

TIA,

Amit
