Can an Excel worksheet that is embedded in a powerpoint presentation
overwrite an existing file if it has the same name?

Can an Excel worksheet that is embedded in a powerpoint presentation
overwrite an existing file if it has the same name?

Let me lay it out in more detail to see if I understand your question
correctly:

You have MySheet.XLS

You copy some info from it and paste into MyPres.PPT, your PowerPoint file.

You save that.

Now you can doubleclick the spreadsheet info while you're editing the file and
edit the spreadsheet.

If that's the case, then under normal circumstances your XLS file wouldn't get
overwritten.

A completely separate copy of the file is embedded in your PPT, and it's the
embedded copy that opens for editing in PPT, not the original file. PPT
doesn't even know where the original file is.

Now if you rightclick the spreadsheet info and choose Open, it will open up in
Excel outside of PPT. From there you can save the file. If you choose to save
it to the same folder/filename as the original MySheet.XLS, then you WILL
overwrite the original file.

Did that totally muddy the waters or should I keep talking?
