Can desktop icons be visible on command?

Hi,
Is there a way to keep icons from being visible on the desktop, and make
them visible only when you wish to use one of them?

yes, delete them. They are all still accessible from Start-All programs.

.you can show/hide icons by right clicking on desktop

point to arrange icons by and check/uncheck show desktop
icons
