Hi. We just moved a client of ours server from WinNT to
Win2000 server. We have a problem with the remote access
however. We have a couple of off-site locations connecting
via VPN, and they need to have a (pre-determined) static
IP address. This was an option in WinNT 4.0 server, but we
can't find this option in Win2k server. Everytime the
client tries to connect, it gets an error. We need to have
these remote machines be 'seen' (computer names) when they
are connected to the VPN (Win2k) server. Before, we had
entries in the hosts file for their set IP addresses for
each remote workstation, and it worked great. But now,
it's not. So is there a way to have our VPN client PCs
request a static IP? Or is there a better way of the
server being able to resolve the remote computer names
(with the IP always changing each time they connect)?
Thanks,
Jamie
