............a good quality free anti virus which is less hungry than Avast ?

I had been using AVG and happy with it - but it refused to update.

I am trying Avast and it sees to be very resource hungry - i.e. PC
performance has slowed and become stuttery when trying to open programmes.

TIA

How many providers do you have running? There are 7 available, but
I only use 4.

The free version of AVG works best when you manually right-click on the
system tray icon and select 'Check for Updates' at least once a day. If you
have an always on Internet connection, it will perform the update when you
reboot your PC. This is not sufficient for most people, as they don't
necessarily reboot their PC every day.

I use BitDefender 8 and it works very well.
I found Avast and AVG both slowed my computer down appreciably.

BitDefender Free Edition, does it expire?

I have been using the Free Edition until it expired!!! Contacted the support
and they gave me free registration keys which do not work as well!!

Ah !

I have had 7 running and now dropped it the essential 4 - does seem to be
smoother !

Thanks,

Jim

Incidentally - is AVAST Better than AVG ?

It's a matter of opinion. AVG is better known, although I've found
Avast to run smoother on my computer. I also like Avast's slick interface
and colorful sound associations.
