I bought a computer eight months ago, from a proper computer shop. 2
weeks after I bought it it started to freeze and then crash, I could
get it back to working order again, but then it would get worse and I
would not be able to get it started again, I took it back to the dealer
and he ran tests and programmes though it, over the course of time after
8 visits back to him, he took the whole computer back to default, still
as always I had the same problem, after 6 or 7 seven days it would
start to freeze and then crash and after 10 ten days I could never get
it going again, the last time I took it back, he SAID he put a new
motherboard in it!!! When I got it back sure enough it started to
freeze and crash after 6 or 7 days, He will not give me my money back
although he is fully aware that it has'nt work trouble free for longer
than 6 or 7 days. can anyone throw any light on this problem, is it a
windows xp problem or is it a hard drive problem, it clearly is'nt a
virus problem because what I am lead to believe is that all software
has been check and anything iffy has been taken off, is this man taking
me for an idiot I am clearly not, or is the idiot by not knowing what he
is doing, please help me get to the bottom of this problem, before I go
mad or do something worse to the guy who sold it to me.

You need to define freeze and then crash. What specifically happens?
Is the tower in the open I.E. Well ventilated? Do you have a good AC ground?

The headers to your newsgroup posting suggest you may be in the UK.

If you purchased the computer from a retailer in the UK, the entire
transaction should be covered by the Sale of Goods Act 1979, as amended
by the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002.

I am not a lawyer. However, the goods were clearly not fit for their
purpose. You have allowed the vendor ample opportunity to rectify the
problem, which he has failed to do. Consequently, you are entitled to
reject the computer and recover the money you have paid.

You will find additional information at
http://www.berr.gov.uk/consumers/buying-selling/sale-supply/sale-of-good-act/page8600.html
and http://www.berr.gov.uk/consumers/consumer-support/index.html.

The Trading Standards Department of your local Council may be able to
assist. Also, do a Google search (UK pages) against "Sale of Goods
Act".

I've seen a similar problem where the power in the room was the
principle cause. You might want to test the PC in a different room
and / or different building (and not the repair shop.)
