Can a SAM file be converted to NTDS.DTT

Does anyone know of any conversion tools that would
convert a SAM file to NTDS.DTT

Or when you upgrade a 2000 server to a DC will it use the
SAM settings in making the NTDS.DTT
 
Nope, it cannot be renamed and be rendered usable as ntds.dit

I believe that local users are deleted when you do a dcpromo. You could use the
Resource Kit addusers tool to copy and add the users from the server to the
domain controller before doing a dcpromo. By default addusers will give users a
blank password and prompt them to change there password at first logon. ---
