can a monitor cable be repaired?

Hi,

I have built several PCs for friends etc all with no problem....until now.
My first problem has been caused by a rabbit eating its way through the
(CRT) monitor cable causing the screen to go pink!! I have been told that
these cables can not be repaired and that a new screen must be bought.

Surely this is not true?

Can anyone advise as to the authenticity of this piece of advise.

its a PINTA, the worst ones to fix are the coaxial lines,,,,,,, can be
done, but make sure what your doing it on, is worth the effort. Old
age I Guess, cause now my eyes and hands don't work like the should.

If you have the patience you could try to splice the wiring after all is
only 15 pins or wires. However, used and new 17 monitors are available
of under $100. I got a used 15 inch you can have for $25+shipping.

I agree with JAD. If you must fix this monitor, I would try to find a
working cable for it. If you can't find the correct one, a good cable
from another model monitor can be used. If you use one however, it is
easier to modify the end connecting to the monitor than it is on the end
plugging into the video card. Repairs to the middle of the cable
sometimes result in noise problems on the monitor.

Sounds trivial. You just need to find someone good with a soldering iron.
Possibly a heat-shrink gun, also. -Dave

Cable can be repaired but is a bit tricky, probably easier to get a new
monitor and then kill the rabbit !
