An old deskjet printer is being run off the computer's parallel port.
The computer is networked via a router and it happens to be equipped
with two network cards - one live one and the other installed, but
dormant. I have a second network ready laser and was wondering if it
would be possible to activate it off the 2nd NIC

Yup, I guess you could if you put the second network card on it's own
subnet, with the printer on that subnet.

Otherwise, you can always purchase a parallel expansion card to add the
second printer locally.

There are two ways to do it, but the ease of doing the one suggested by
Lucas depends on the Windoze version. If the router contains a switch and
thus has several network ports, I would recommend plugging the printer into
a spare port on the router instead. That way you will be able to access the
printer from any computer on the network without having to install a bridge.
