Hi
Say I make 2 partitions on a hard drive, and install XP home on both, is it possible to restrict the access of users to a certain partition? Can they easily log on to a certain partition on startup? Also, would it be possible to do this with 2 different hard drives instead of the 1 with partitions
Thanks a bunch

Yes XP has a boot handler it will give you a menu at boot
up giving access to either OS You can then put password
on log in of each OS.I think the boot .ini is held on the
first partition.
I think if you use Powerquest Boot Magic you can password
at boot menu.
Sorry Im not up on dual HD's but I think it should be
possible.

Hi,

You'd need a boot manager. While it's easy enough to setup two installations
of WinXP in two different partitions of the same hard drive and password
them appropriately, there is no native way to prevent each installation from
having access to the files on the other's partition. The only thing that you
could do is encrypt files in each, and that carries with it its own set of
dangers. To truly hide each from the other, you'd need a boot manager that
is capable of hiding the partitions loaded for different installations, and
of prohibiting changes to these settings. BootIT NG from
www.terabyteunlimited.com can do this.

Technically, there is nothing to prevent you from creating two installations
of WinXP on the same hard drive, or on two different hard drives in the same
system. According to the license though, you are supposed to own two copies
of WinXP to do this, but technically.......
