Can 1 pc run 2 network cards or will they conflict?

Can a single pc run a regular 10/100 ethernet card and a wireless
network card? Or will 2 cards cause hardware conflicts causing neither
to work properly?
 
Shouldn't be a problem. Why do you need 2 nics?

Troubleshooting my niece's DSL connection problems..... she had 2 nics
in it. I didn't know if that was contributing to the problem.
