If you tried installing the new software but you still have the yellow flag
in device manager, you then need to repair this.
To repair your USB connection:

Go to Control panel>Performance and maintenance>System>Hardware>Device
manager>Universal Serial Bus Controller, click on the + sign to see the list
of installed devices. If your camera is connected, it should be listed there
with a yellow flag (the yellow flag indicates that although the connection
is there, it is not working properly).

Right click on it>Properties>Troubleshoot. See if the troubleshooter can
help. If not, click on Action on the top bar and then Uninstall. Leave your
camera on and connected and reboot. XP should now recognize the camera and
install it (I am assuming here that your camera is fully compatible with XP
and according to your manual you do not need to install a driver, this
should be true for many cameras of 2001 and up). If you needed to install a
driver, disconnect the camera before you reboot, install the driver and then
connect the camera (important to install the driver first). If you lost the
driver, go to the manufacturer web site and download the driver from there.
If you had a driver already installed (or any kind of software you needed to
install for this camera), uninstall it first (from Control Panel>Add/Remove)
and then install again before connecting the camera. Just to make sure,
reboot your computer again after you uninstall and install the software and
then connect the camera.

I am sorry to be so much trouble on this but I have now carried out all your
instructions twice to no avail I have just got the same result the error code
28 "no driver loaded" I went into the camera wizard in an attempt to load it
that way but the wizard has only a blank list so I wondered is there anywhere
I can get generic drivers and would this do any good. thanks once again for
your help

No problem.
All I can say at this point is to visit the following Kodak site to trouble
shoot.

If this does not work, the last option you have is to purchase a USB2 card
reader (it will work if you are still on USB1, but just more slowly). You
just connect it, XP will recognize it as new hardware and automatically
install it. You then insert your camera memory card in it and download from
there.
I did this Easy Share repair with the Clear utility download from the above
site for one of my neighbor some months ago and it did work. Follow the
instructions carefully. If you have antivirus software installed, disable it
before getting started with the Kodak instructions.

Job done and for anyone else who may exoerience this problem the solution is
update the driver from a specific location and then point the system to
C:\program files\common files\kodak\kodak_dr. I have worked on this problem
from christmas day and have despaired of finding a solution so once again let
me thank you for your help, time and patience with me on this problem. thank
you

Glad it worked. Sometime describing your problem to somebody else makes you
think about things and you get a hint.
