Has you camcorder worked under SP1, but when connected to the firewire port
of your upgraded SP2 computer, stopped working?
If so please post your pc specs, inc as much info as possible, inc hardware
and software, also Make/model/age/PAL-NTSC of the camcorder, and what if
anything happens when the cam is connected.

Please no discussions of the problem in this post, just info from people who
are suffering.

Graham
I upgraded my system to XP Home SP2 before I started with digital video
editing - hence I have never, ever seen it working.
PC spec: Fujitsu Siemens Amilo D laptop.
Pentium 4 CPU 2.00 GHz,
2.00 GHz 256 MB of RAM
Firewire with 4 pins at both ends: Texas instruments compliant OHCI
IEEE 1394 Bus host controller.
Camcorder is Canon MV20 (from 1999-2000?) and it says PAL on it.
None of this info means a great deal to me - which is probably part of
the problem.
With MM2 the preview window appears scrambled. Upon "capture" a single,
pixelated 5kb frame is stored.
With Premier Pro the preview window displays a "still" of the first
frame, again scrambled in that charateristic "rewinding digital tape"
way. If I attempt to mark in and out points and capture footage the
program closes with an error message.
I'd very much appreciate your help with this.
Sincerely,
GEO

FYI, as you suggested I have also tried to capture my video with "ulead
Video Studio 9" from the MV20 and the problem is that even though I've
set the software to UK & Pal, it still sees the device as NTSC!! Like
MM, the preview moves but is pixelated, and then it captures one frame
which is scrambled.
But you're right, it does look like a user-friendly interface. If only
I could use it.
Please let me know what other information you need! Cheers GEO

Geo,
The defaulting to NTSC is one of the problkems we have been seeing, so I'm
afraid I cannot give you any answers yet. Depending on how well you fel
delving into your pc, you can follow the instructions for changing the
drivers of sp2 to sp1. If you have a sp1 disc then it is reasonably
straighforward, if not you need to find someone who has.
If you'd like to visit my site I am putting some items to try on there and
there is a contact email address, which will make things easier in getting
the info I need from you if you don't mind being emailed off the newsgroups.
Try it tomorrow.

Dear Graham.
I do have an SP1 disc because when I bought my computer it had that OS,
then I plugged it into broadband and it upgraded to SP2. Would you be
able to tell me how to change the drivers back to SP1 with the disc?
Recently I tried to follow Kristen Miller's advice (that is also on
your website) but found that the old MSDV.sys drivers reverted to the
new ones after I'd changed them. If there is a more rational way to do
it, using the disc I'd be happy to try it. I have heard of it working
for some people though...
I have found your email link to be "undeliverable", but I definitely
don't mind being emailed off the newsgroups.
Yours sincerely GEO.
