Hello All Faxing Guru's,

I currently am running a Windows 2000 Server with two US
Robotics modems connected to it for incoming faxes only.
The modems use the "Built in Fax Service" of Windows 2000
Server (Not Small Biasness Server) to drop all incoming
faxes into a network share. After the faxes get on the
network share the secretary drops them in to the
appropriate home drive. I get calls all the time from
people saying that the fax picks up and is drop in the
middle of the transmission. I guess since I am using the
built in service that this is the only software that we
have.

I heard some talk in here about how my modems suck. I am
not in an enterprise sizes network and only receive about
50 faxes a day. So I am trying to find a cost effective
solution here.

I have been looking at a "Brooktrout TruFax 200MS UPCI Fax
board for Microsoft SharedFax" from CDW. It comes with
Microsoft SharedFax drivers, which I have not found much
information about except that they come with Small
Biasness Server.

1.Is the Microsoft SharedFax drivers just like the Default
Fax Service that comes with Windows 2000 Server?

2.Am I going to have to buy a fax software package to
receive or to send with Microsoft SharedFax drivers (Don't
really care about be able to send but it would be nice)?

3.Can both ports on the Brooktrout TruFax 200MS receive
faxes at the same time?

4.Will this new Brooktrout TruFax 200MS fax board drop
faxes like the US Robotics modems do?

5.What are your opinions on this fax board?

Thanks,
James Ewell

James,

I happen to sell a Fax Enterprise Solution built on .NET (www.faxcore.com)
we use only use the Brooktrout Boards, They are very stable in the most
harsh environments. The Trufax 200 is there lowest line of boards there are
some limitations with this board such as TTI header programming and some
other key features.

You will be able to send and receive on the lines at the same time, the
board has its own intelligent processing so it does not use any resources
from the serer.

As far as MS fax goes if you are looking for a real simple solution with
really know fax archiving feature then that is the way to go. If you are
looking for something more advanced such as Fax Arching, Browser based
solution you should look at some other products.

I have been selling fax servers for about 8 years and by far the best
solution out there is Faxcore. They are light years ahead of RightFAX and
some other major players as well.

Good Luck

Brooktrout is definitely much better then US Robotics. US robotics is not
suitable for use as a fax server as you have found out.

But I would get proper fax server software to go with that too... Check out

Kirk
