Crash's, game play just stop's. Some times end task works other times a cold
boot is required.
Using Cat 3.8.
The demo played fine.
It looks like a patch is needed either from Activision or ATI..

The same thing here with a Radeon 9700 Pro and Cat 3.8 under WinXp Pro, 1
gb memory, AMD XP 3200+ cpu. I also found that setting the amount of bodies
to "insane" caused a *lot* of jerkiness. Moving it down one notch to
"high" was much better. Everything else was set to highest levels and
trilinear filtering was used as well as EAX 3 at 44khz. Resolution was
1152x864 with no AA. AF was set to application preference.

Crashes here too - right in the beginning too.

Damn. Nothing I do will set it right.

Hidden and Dangerous is just fine, though.

Turn off fast writes, turn off AA or AF. Turn off VPU recovery.

....Go back to 3.7 catalysts.

I would try one of his tips at a time adding one more if the last one failed
to help till it works..

Well so far I have tried it without Fast Writes and with VPU Recovery off
(AA is already disabled). It still crashed after about 10 minutes. This
time XP left the details... Seems like the Catalyst 3.8 is having a hard
time with opengl. Max Payne 2 has 0 errors while CoD is constant. I
haven't tried all the options off at the same time. I will try that next
but I don't think it will help any. But I will report my results here
just the same. I think I will have to go back to Catalyst 3.7 until the
new ones are released..

I don't actually have COD yet but I tried playing the Dawnville demo
with the 3.8 cats. It might have been in the demo readme, I'm not sure,
but I've seen it posted on some forums that the COD retail readme
states, "COD was tested with the 3.7 catalysts and you may have problems
with the later release." Could you check your readme and report if
that's a fact.

I'd say roll those drivers back if you want to play.

It finally stay stable after all three were turned off. That being Fast
Writes, VPU Recovery, and AA Disabled. I was able to finish the game and
play 3 hours straight.

Quick review of the game.. pretty short game length (that was on easy, I
am sure it takes a *lot* longer on Veteran). Some average level design
and some *really* impressive level design. Sounds were very impressive..
Too bad I just sold my Klipsch 4.1's yesterday and have to wait for the
5.1 Ultra's to come in this week to *really* be in the middle of the war!
Headphones just don't do it justice.. all base is gone as well as the
directional cues. Model and level textures are very good too. The
Stalingrad levels are the best IMO. I am sure at the higher difficulty
levels there will be many more snipers and they have an almost endless
amount of locations to appear from.

On a side note..the shaders for water (i.e. rivers, lakes, oceans) look
very very good. Almost too good sometimes.. since the background scenery
can look somewhat cartoony in comparison. ;-)

Rolled back the drivers and nice and stable with 3.7s with AA etc turned on
(9600 Pro). Sounds great with 5:1s !

No problems with R9600/WinXP Pro/Cat 3.8 for me. Fast writes off, VPU off,
AA2X, AF app pref (1024x768). Everything set to highest possible except body
count (which is set to large).

Contacted Activision. They confirmed a problem with Cat 3.8 driver and
suggest that I return to 3.7.
So that's what I did and no more crash.
There was no need to turn down any settings.
...

I played the first demo and thought it was great! This past weekend I
downloaded the Dawnville demo and I have frequent crashes. I am running
3.7's on ATI 9700 Pro. Does it really make sense to buy a new game only to
turn off everything to play it? I think I'll wait a while to see what
happens with this. I always play demo's before I spend $$ on retail games.
Dawnville changes my buying plans temporarily.

Playing it here with a Sapphire 9600 Pro with everything turned on and no
probs. I have resorted to the 3.7 drivers tho'.

Crashes on demo here too with 3.8's.
I posted about this about 10 days ago when CoD demo
first appeared on limited sites before the sites took it down.

I'm glad now that the demo and full are out in great numbers that
I'm not the only one. I've not tried all the fixes mentioned, but
CoD demo works fine with 3.7's.
