Calender will not display holidays even after being set to do so

I have gone into the calender setup to have US holidays displayed in my
monthly calender but still get no display of them. Tried
reinstalling/repairing Office 2000 Prof & still get the same results.

After furious head scratching, Holiday display in calendar asked:
