Is there a way to use a calendar made in Word as wallpaper?
Or do you know of any free calendars that sit on the desktop as wallpaper?

Copy the calendar in Word, Edit menu, Paste Special, Picture, Copy it again, type mspaint in Start Run, paste into Paint and save it.

The first step converts (what ever it is that is in your document) it to a picture (office terminology for what is called an wmf/emf in Windows), copying a picture makes it available on the clipboard as a bitmap.

Hello desgnr,

I posted this same question several months ago and I got several replies and
ideas that might be useful to you.

Here is a reference to my post...
Subject: Desktop Calendar?

The message should still be on this newsgroup server.

I opted to take Sharon F.'s suggestion. I downloaded the "free" desktop
calendar along with the clock and other widgets.

http://www.ipi.fi/~rainy/index.php?pn=projects&project=rainlendar

They really work great and I'm quite pleased with what can be done with it.
And if you don't like it's looks, you can download "skins" that others have
created.
There is a link at the left side where you can go to preview/download the
skins.

don't forget to download the html and/or pdf file user manuals.

One thing I really liked is that there are several download options.
(1) installer option, this will install as an application.
(2) exe (executable) option, download this and either click on the exe file
or create a shortcut to it in your startup folder to run it at boot.

This will not be a wallpaper as you ask for, I was looking for an active
desktop item.
But this will put a little mini calendar on your desktop that has great
function.
Need to be reminded of your next dentist appointment? This will do it and
much more.

Really cool...!

Hope this is helpful!

Best regards,
Richard in Va.

Yes, Richard in Va.
I read the post and looked for calendars and rainlendar was one that I
looked at, but it seemed too complex - perhaps it isn't :-)

I ended up using Desktop Calendar by Tinnes http://www.desktopcalendar.tk/
It will install its own wallpaper or you can use your existing one. It can
be set to a few sizes, and also to reduce to one line after 30 seconds (or
whatever) display.

I also found a quite nice one called DATEwise ECalendar from BizWareMagic
http://bizwaremagic.com/ . It doesn't reduce in size, but has lots of nice
features

I may look at rainlendar to see how it compares

If you find out any more about active desktop items, I would be interested
to hear.

Trevor,
Not complex at all...

This is one of the neatest things I've seen in a while.
The default Rainlendar calendar had a few things I didn't care for,
especially the big red donut that sits on today's date. Actually covering up
the calendar day. Too big and distracting, So I read thru the "ini" file
and figured how to change it. It's simply a file named "Today.bmp". I
copied the same file from the "Tranquil" calendar skin over to the
"shadow3.1" folder. Now today's date is highlighted with a subtle grey
square box that is not so eye distracting.

Also, the little arrows on either side of the month allows you move from
month-to-month to setup that dentist appointment 3 months down the road.
Just double-click on the date and a window will open. Fill in the
information to create an event and presto, it's done. Hover the mouse over
that day and an info window will display your event details. Your mother
in-law has a birthday, set the event to reoccur every year.

But as for the other two windows, I think there called "tasks" and "To-do".
I turned them off.
Move the calendar around and put it anywhere you want. Set the transparency
for it as well.

Now for the RainMeter thing, (same web page), it has a nice desktop clock
that I like.

The skins that other people create are really neat and creative. You can
preview the skins from the skins download area. Follow the links. Someone
even made a Binary clock. That's a clock that no-one can actually read.
(Fun stuff)

These things are highly customizable, read through the manual. Then open the
"ini" file with a text editor.
Another example, I really didn't care for the week numbers along the left
side of the calendar. So I edited it out of the "ini" file... easy!

Thanks for the links you've given, don't think I've heard of any of them.
I'll try to look into those tonight.
Thanks!

I haven't heard anything else about active desktop items, haven't really
looked
