Calendar view dark/light yellow should be customizable

the dark/light yellow from 8am to 5 pm should be customizable, not everyone
has an 8-5 schedule. Also, the two colors do not give enough contrast, they
should be user selectable.
 
You can change the colors, although it will always be a light/dark shade of
the color you choose - tools, options, calendar options... and the 8-5 is
controlled on the same screen by changing your working hours.

That's interesting. That is better, the blue choice has a little more
contrast than light/dark yellow.

Why isn't that in the "Customize current view" options when you right click
on the window? It seems like a more logical location.

It's a global setting, not a view, which is why it's not under customize
views... but they have Time zones and Other settings... both of which are
also global too... so it's not without precedence. :)
