Calendar troubleshooting

I have happily used Outlook Calendar for years and suddenly it refuses my new
calendar items with the response 'Could not save item'.
There seems to be no information on this problem. Any suggestions?
 
What version of Outlook are you using and how many items are in your
Calendar folder?
