Hello,
I had a system problem that required that I reinstall Windows 2000 and all
my programs. No data was lost.
When I reloaded Office (and Outlook), and tried to open my Outlook pst file
- the calendar comes up - BLANK. Where did all the detail go? The file is
intact, as is all my other data (word, excel, etc.). Is this some sort of
"permissions" or securtiy issue - and is there anyway to resolve it?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Can you describe the exact steps you took?

If all of your Contacts, mail, Tasks, etc. are there, your calendar should
be as well, since it's all in the same file.

Brian,
Thank you for taking the time to respond, but I only used Outlook for the
calendar function - not any of the other functions.

Still, if you want a solution you need to provide more background.

Brian,
Please tell me what further information I can provide. When I reinstalled
Windows 2000it created a new profile. I then tried to import the existing pst
file and it responded with a message that the file was not a valid pst file.
Thank you.

New Windows profile or mail profile?

Your original message said, "tried to open" and that the calendar "comes
up - BLANK". Opening and importing are obviously two different operations
that are in no way equivalent. Now, which of the two did you do? _Exactly_
how did you make the PST you believe contains your data?

Brian,
Sorry - I realize I am not explaining this properly, but want to try again.
On a daily basis, I would use Outlook - but only the calendar function. I am
not importing or exporting the file. Sadly, it had been a long time since I
had performed any kind of "backup" procedure, so I have no backup to restore.

When windows was reinstalled on my system - it appeared that ALL my data
files were intact. Yes, I had to reload programs, but, for example, if I
double-clicked a word or excel document - it would automatically open up in
Word or Excel. So, I figured all my data - was fine.

I knew that Outlook saved in a pst format - so, I saw a file named
"outlook.pst", that had the date of the last time I had used outlook PRIOR to
the reinstallation of windows, so I double clicked it - and outlook opened up
- but the calendar was empty of any of my appointments or anything I had
entered on a particular date. It was as if - I was looking at a brand new
file. As I don't use any other Outlook functions - it was not odd to me that
nothing else was there. Yet - when I now keep looking at this file when I do
a search on windows explorer - it's a pretty large file, the date of it has
not changed - nor has it's size - and I just can't figure out why I'm not
getting to my information in the calendar. Should I try to "import" it?
Restore from it? I just don't know what else to say, since I'm not real
technical - but I appreciate any help you can give.

*Brian - disregard last message - I was FINALLY able to get the file
imported. BUt thanks for trying.

Outlook Data Files aren't handled like DOC or XLS files. You must open
Outlook, then use File>Open>Outlook Data File to open them.
- and
outlook opened up - but the calendar was empty of any of my
appointments or anything I had entered on a particular date. It was
as if - I was looking at a brand new file.

And you probably were. After opening the PST as above, click File>E-mail
Accounts>Next. At the bottom is a drop-down labeled "Deliver new e-mail to
the following location". Locate your old PST in that drop-down, stop and
restart Outlook, and you'll be back to normal. You can then close the empty
PST with right-click Close.

Never export to or import from a PST. You will lose data and you could
corrupt your mail profile.
