Calendar items disappearing

I have a few users who access a shared calendar. They mentioned to me the
other day that they put items on the calendar, and after a few days those
items disappear. No one says they deleted the items.

Any ideas as to how they could have been deleted (i.e server processes)?
 
Let me add some more complexity. WHen i look in the GAL, I do not see the
account listed, however, if i open up outloo, i can open the mailbox!.

When I open another mailbox and I attempt to open the calendar of the
account in question, I receive the following error:

I tried to recreate the error, but it said something liek... this mailbox is
not on the exchange server. But I see the account inside of system manager
in the same Storage group as the other accounts!!
