Jeff, the easiest way to do this is to migrate all your data onto the
exchange server - get rid of the local PST. Depending on the size of email
that you have, this may not be possible.
For what I'm about to say, I assume that you are using Outlook 2003. If
not, i'm guessing it's not that different in other versions and you should be
able to figure it out. If you aren't the system admin, please check with
them first - as you may end up using a large amount of space on the exchange
server that they haven't accounted for. You may need to archive old data
before starting - i know I did. 8GB of mail :S
Anyway, the process that I use is this. Export all data from your local
folders to a PST file on your local hard drive somewhere. Once completed, go
to tools email accounts, view or change existing email accounts. There
should be a drop down box for Deliver new email to the following location.
Change that to mailbox - <user>. Click finish and exit from outlook. Go
into the control panel, open the mail applet, and click on the data files
button. Your personal folders file should be listed. Highlight and remove.
Close the mail applet.
Open outlook. Tada! Now you only have one copy of everything (contacts,
mailbox, calendar etc). Now you just need to import the PST file that you
created earlier. This will effectively merge the the two mail folders,
contacts, calendar etc. together.
