calculations in forms

I have created a form with several text boxes set with numeric properties. I do not have the calculate upon exiting box checked. At the end of several boxes, I have set up a text box for the calculation. I have the text box properties set to a calculation and have listed the calculation as =text1+text2+text3, etc.
When I am entering in the numbers for the first several boxes the calulation does not happen. When I get to the thrid or fourth text box and enter a number, the calculation then adds the previous numbers. This also happens towards the bottom of the formula. I have to tab back through all of the text boxes to make the calculation happen. Help. I can also see when the calculation is being performed because the hour glass appears on the screen and it pauses for several seconds.
What is the calculate open exiting box do?

The option is mistitled. It should say "update any other fields that are
based on the information in this field upon exit." I haven't experimented
with only checking it in later data entry boxes because I haven't seen that
hourglass cursor on my computer in Word forms where I have it checked on
every field that is used in other fields.

What Charles is saying is that you have to enable "Calculate on exit" in
each of the form fields that contribute to the calculation to make it update
automatically. This is true for REF fields as well.
