Does anyone know of a simple caching DNS server to run on
windows XP?

Thanks,

I think you are looking for "TreeWalk DNS" (previously known as
"BIND-PE").

Free for home use. Well regarded and simple to use.
http://ntcanuck.com/ Web site can be slow.

The discussion forums for it are linked on
http://ntcanuck.com/forums.htm

As you seem to be in Europe and on NTL Cable then choose the "OSRC"
root server in preference to the default "ICANN" root server (use
Start | Programs | Treewalk). Confirm you are on OSRC by accessing
this URL in your web browser as the ICANN root server can not resolve
it: http://atlantic.ocean/

Thanks. I shall try this out.
I can't resolve that url so i guess i should leave it on ICANN.

Hi Ben,

My DSL is playing up ATM so the NTCanuck forums are only up about 70%
of the time, but please drop in sometime to visit us. (just be patient
if you don't get in first time while repairs are underway - newsreader is
best imho) The FAQ's are being developed from the questions being asked
- there are a number of tweaks available according to your needs.

As a new user it's probably best to keep the root add-ons as a later
option. The basic setup is good for most users with the add-ons able
to remove a step involved when resolving an IP for those demanding
ultimate speed. Tools are available to compare the different add-on
efficencies to help choose the best for your part of the world or use.
