The wizard didn't get rid of my cached files. I'd like to know where they
are and how I can delete them. I looked up the location in the properties
window, but I can't naigate to that location.

In your user account profile folder (C:\Documents and
Settings\user_account)\go to Local Setting\Temp\ the cached files should be
there.
The Local Settings folder is a hidden folder by default so to unhide it;
Tools\Folder Options\View and select "Show hidden files and folders".

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning
or
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\CD Burning

Local Settings is a Hidden folder, anything downstream is also Hidden.

Start | Run | Paste the following line in the box and click OK...

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning

Note: This is the folder files are cached when recording with third party
software.
----------------------------

For a week it was working, and then the same problem started over. I go to
C:\Documents and Settings\dennist685\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\CD Burning.

The files had been there, and I deleted them. When I open up the folder
now, it is empty. I refresh it. It is still empty. Yet when I write to a
CD, the original files are still there.

dennist; I had that same problem on one computer with the cached files when
recording with the Windows interface, and never had it again since I started
using third party applications. There are other ways to record than with
the drop in method but if you prefer to record that way there are
applications that do a better job than Windows... one of such applications
is Nero In CD... use it and do away with the problem.

I have Nero. But I can only burn or backup. I haven't figured out a way to
just copy files to cd or dvd. Can you help me?

There are several ways to record with Nero:

1) The first thing you do is open Nero Start Smart\Select the icon for
the type of recording you are about to do [say it's files] so you select the
data icon\then the Create data CD [lower icon]\ once in Nero express, to
add the files to be recorded, click on add\and then click on the link at the
left to open a Windows Explorer-like interface and search for the files to
be recorded, select them and click on the Add button in the bottom and next
click on finish\after that click on next in the Nero Express\next check on
Allow files to be added later (multisession disc) that's if you want to
leave the CD ready for later recording or remove the check to close the CD
and record a single time. Next click on Burn .

2) Another way to record; after opening Start Smart\click on the Nero
Express link in the left\then Data\Data Disc\then add like before

3) ) Another way is open Nero start Smart\click on the left on Nero
Burning ROM\double click on the CD icon on the left panel if you want to
name the CD\ then right click on the right panel and select Add Files and
search for the files in the Explorer-like interface\select the files to be
recorded, click on add and on finish\then click on Burn Current
Compilation\select preferences be it multisesion CD for using the CD to
record several times, or No multisesion for single recording, and then click
on the Burn tab and check on Simulate to see if the recording can be
finished without a problem, it will take twice the time, or skip that and
record without previous simulation.and then click on Burn.

Hope this will help

thanks for helping. Before I read your reply I opened Nero itself and more
or less went from there.

dennist; just in case you are interested, I use Ashampoo CD Recording Suite
4 and it's the easiest application that I've ever used, it looks something
like Nero Express but is much easier ... version 5 also can record DVDs and
must be as simple to use. It can be used for 10 days, and you can extend
the evaluation period another 30 days if you register it. Try it, you will
like it.

Hi,
If you use Nero to burn files. You can burn them as ISO files
which take up less room.
Just read that the other day.

Right; and you can save the ISO files for later modification, repeated
recording or simply as a backup. Thanks for the input.

ISO 9660
The physical format for CD-ROM discs (including size, tracking, contents of
sectors, and so forth) is defined by the Red Book. The standard logical
format for CD-ROMs (including the volume and file structure) is defined by
ISO 9660: Information Processing - Volume and File Structure of CD-ROM for
Information Exchange (1988), issued by the International Standards
Organization. This format can be used by many different computers.

----------------------------------

Sorry: it won't work as backup as it is just a compilation not actual files.

Hi,
You welcome.
But sometimes if a file is too big. You have to use either Win Zip or
WinRar to compact the files first. Then change to an ISO file.
Then it should work.
it worked for myself.
Good Luck!
