Does cached exchange mode in 2003 take the place of the offline folder settings in 2000; or are these two completely different?

Thank you.

Yes, cached mode also uses an .ost file, but operates differently, constantly updating the local copy of the folders stored on your machine.

Thank you Sue that was very helpful. One more question relating to this: I thought that the Send/Receive Groups "Settings for group 'All Accounts'" was for off-line synchronization -- what is this setting for?

Cached Exchange mode places a copy of the users entire mailbox in the ost
file. If you are in ANSI rather than Unicode mode, the file size is limited
to 1.8GB. Offline folders are similar in that they hold your mailbox in the
ost file with the same file size limitations, but offline folders can be
configured. You can set which folders you want to include in the offline
file, while in cached mode you cannot, your entire mailbox is saved.

Thank you both Sue and Jesslyn for your responses. One more question: How can I find out which format the OST file is using (ANSI or Unicode)? Thank you.
