Just migrated to cable motorola surfboard 4200 from dial-
up. I have been unable to get the modem to be recognized
using ethernet-no ip address is obtained and the software
my isp gave me will not even install as it tells me there
is a problem in my conneciton...have tried pretty much
everything-rebooting modem, reinstalling driver for
cnetpro200wl pci fast ethernet, dumping tcp/ip
configurations, device manager shows the icon normally.
Cable works absolutely fine with usb. Cable company told
me it was probably a problem with my network card however
my ethernet worked fine previously with dsl, dell was
unable to help. I need the ethernet connection to use my
vpn at work (usb is not supported in the client). Any
thoughts?

set the network card to 10Mbps half duplex instead of autosense. there is a
known problem with that card and several devices.

Hi...

I am having this EXACT same problem... I can connect with my Motorola
surfboard 5100 just fine using the USB connection (with an anoying problem
which I will get into later), but when I try connecting to my ethernet card,
I get nothing... I can not run a trace, I can not reteive a new ip
address... nothing... although the front panel modem lights all appear as
they should with a good connection. I have reinstalled card drivers, I have
shut the modem down and restarted, I have released the old IP address... and
still nothing! This is very frustrating! Did you find a solution?

Now... I don't specifically need to use my ethernet connection, but when I
connect with USB, it restarts my computer after 30seconds to about 3
minutes... just blamo... reboot as if someone hit the power button! It does
it constantly... Anyone have any ideas on this one?

Thanks in advance!

Rob

Try 10 Mbps

Under properties:10 mbps 1/2 duplex is not an option, my
choices are 100 mbps full duplex, 100 mbps, 10 mbps full
duplex or 10 mbps or autosense. There is no listing for
1/2 duplex. Should I set it to 100 mbps? As a further
note after attempting 1 more time to reset the modem and
switch to ethernet to no avail my computer crashed while
connected via usb and then had much trouble restarting-
computer thought that my ethernet card was active and
attempted to connect to the modem through it-did system
restore, continued problems-at one point it started up
and system tools were nowhere to be found. I did a
system restore to a date prior to my installation of my
cable modem and it now seems to be working but I'm afraid
to try anything to complicated...hate to have to
reinstall the system software...
