Hi,

perhaps it has be answered a thousand times but i can't find any hint:

i own a notebook, running w2k. at home it is connected by cable to my
lan. no probs at all. if i disconnect i get the disconnection message
and thats it.

now the problem:

i'm running vmware on my physical adapter and for some reason i can not
use the virtual adapters provided by vmware. in this vmware instance i'm
running linux. after disconnecting from the net i cannot contact this
linux from windows because there is no local net on this phys. adapter
anymore.

i know there was a flag to set in the registry to make w2k think that
the connection is still valid, so that i can use this inner net on the
adapter.

but i can't remember where to set and how to set (name/value). does
anyone know where i can find som info about it?

Thanks

Ulrich

Install MS Loopback adapter.

Anyway, the answer on your question:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters, value DisableDHCPMediaSense,
value type: REG_DWORD, data 1. If set to 1, the DHCP client ignores Media
Sense events from the interface. By default, Media Sense events trigger the
DHCP client to take an action, such as attempting to obtain a lease (when a
connect event occurs), or invalidating the interface and routes (when a
disconnect event occurs).
