I'm using my new C5180 to print photos, and it works fine if I use
the 4x6 tray, but when I use the letter tray, it has a real hard time
getting a hold of the paper and it keeps telling me that I have run
out of paper. I got it to work only once, but seemingly I had to
"shove" the paper in while it was attempting to get a hold of it.

Perhaps the paper I'm using just isn't compatible? It's Red River 68lb
Ultra Pro Gloss (the same paper that works fine in the 4x6 tray).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Too shiney or the feed rollers need a clean. I have this problem with
my fax machine the paper is too shiney.

68lb paper? That's pretty damned thick. Try it with some simple 20lb paper.
If it works with that, then you know that your problem concerns paper that
is too thick for the printer to handle.

I got similar problems. For first 5-6 pages I was pushing the rear rolls
(the thing you open to remove jammed paper). After a day the problem
disappeared. Don't know how much is 68lb, but I have no problems with
275g A4 paper.

what do you mean by 4x6 tray?
if you are talking about IRC5180, use the MF tray and set the paper type
accordingly.
