Sir,

I am having Windows 2000 Server Family
I am getting an error "C0000218 Registry Cannot be loaded
to hive SystemRoot\system32\config\software
Dumping Physical memory".

First I renamed SOFTWARE to SOFTWARE.BAK
then SOFTWARE.SAV to SOFTWARE
This allowed me to login. But Desktop was not visible on
the screen. Using the task manager i was able to run
applications like Notepad, Regedit.

So Then I copied the "software" file from the "repair"
folder and i was able to login and now the desktop was
visible. But now the problem is that I am not able to run
Visual Basic & Oracle.

Kindly suggest me some solution so that i can run my
applications. I will be very greatful if you help me in
this problem.

Regards.

The hive files in %systemroot%\Repair are from OS installation time
and contain nothing later. No applications or other changes. They
are a last resort to get bootable. Re-install all applications and
probably the SPs and patches as well.

What you should have used (and perhaps still can) is the last and
most recent backup of the system's registry hive files. These are
stored by default at %systemroot%\repair\RegBack\ but may not exist
at all if you've never done one of.
Used "Backup" (ntbackup.exe) to do a System State backup, or
Used "Backup" (ntbackup.exe) to make an ERD and have checked the
box: "Also backup the registry to..."

Doing regular registry backups is essential.
