C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHELL32.DLL missing

Can anyone help?

After running a diagnostic on shortcuts I received the
following:

The icon C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHELL32.DLL cannot be used.
The icon file might have been deleted or the DLL might be
corrupt.

What does this mean and what can I do to fix it?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi

'shell32.dll' holds a lot of Windows icons. Try this with the XP CD in the cd drive:

Start>Run - then type in "expand X:\i386\shell32.dl_ C:\windows\system32\shell32.dll" - without the quotes - where X is the letter of your cd drive and C is the letter of your system hard drive/partition.

Failing that:

Start>Run - then type in "sfc /scannow" - without the quotes. You may need to have your XP CD to hand.
