Hi,
I am running windows 2000 professional and I can't get
rid of the spybot in my system.
C:/ win nt/system32/win sock 2.exe.
Can anyone help me on this matter.
I found out where it is lurking, but because it is has
become part of my system I don't know how it can be
removed without causing problems with my system.
Any help would be appreciated.

If it is a critical system file it should also be in your \winnt\system32\dllcache
folder where you could try copying it from, which may need to be done in safe mode or
try using System File Checker - sfc /scannow. --- Steve

Go to www.lavasoft.de and get Adaware. This will help you to get rid of
spyware.

Do you get a dialog on startup that you didn't used to get and a process
win32server.* in the task list?
There is a virus, Backdoor-AZV or Backdoor.IRC.Bot, (McAfee or Symantec
names), which creates this process, and the file version information says
something about it being winsock something or other, sorry, it's a few days
since I looked at a copy so I've forgotten the exact details.
