Anyone know what inoc.exe is?
McAfee 6.02.1018.1 with Definition 4.0.4307 declares it's a virus.
I've killed the process and deleted the directory.

Is this part of Spybot seek and destroy ... I don't know why I think that it
just sort of springs to mind :-)

Thanks

Nope. I've never heard of this never mind installed it?
Searched Google but comes up with nothing useful with relation to inoc.exe.
Thanks

we can't necessarily tell anything about a suspect file by just the
filename...

if mcafee said it was a virus, what virus did it say it was?

I would have thought the path and filename would have been a common
attribute of whatever this file is ....
12/11/2003,14:14:32,293132296,VSCAN,INFECTED,OCTAN,Alan,C:\Program
Files\Inoculator\inoc.exe,1,Adware-DFC,513
That's all McAfee shows in the log.
Thanks

~~~~~~~~~~
That's the name of the virus, or in this case, trojan.
See http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_100486.htm, although
inoc.exe is not one of the file names listed, so this may
be a slightly modified variant.
Given that it's adware, and at least 4 months old, I'd
expect either adaware, or spybot, to be able to remove it.
Thanks very much. I did actually unzip and delete a stack of old jokes from
a backup CD last week while looking for something else so think this is the
source. Although I deleted without opening all the suspect exe's and docs. I
guess I wasn't thorough enough.
I have spybot which I'll run again and also get a copy of adaware.
Your logs pretty much said it all. It isn't a VIRUS, it's ADWARE or spyware
if you prefer, or in Mcafee terms "an unwanted program".
Yeah I should have read the log ... The scan output just said Virus and I've
never known McAfee to find spyware/adware before. Actually I've been running
McAfee for several years and never had a hit for anything as I'm very
careful on the net and with files or downloads.
Thanks
Thanks
I have about 5 of them turn up every scan - unwanted programs that I have in
storage. They aren't any form of virus. Mcafee now looks for some spyware,
too.
