Microsoft auto download for XP Pro sound driver killed my sound. NO
success using detailed regedit clean up ideas on the web. I am
perplexed and need help. (e-mail address removed)

There is no "Microsoft auto download" since sound drivers like
"C-Media" may be found under (optional) hardware updates rather than
under critical (security) updates. See also

Next time NEVER download or install drivers for a card that is already
working. Time to roll back the driver.
