I cant install the driver, so my computer is still in silence...

Actaully, I called the computer to search the driver of my CMI8738 PCI Audio
Device automatically. However, after some times, it said that it could find
the driver, but it encoutered a problem while attempting to install it. Even,
I installed the driver by myself, it did not work. I have tried many times,
but it still doesn't work.

So, do anyone have such problems?
Do you guys have any solutions?
thx...

I was able to get my onboard CMI8738 to install and I have sound. I used a
driver version that is not available on the C-media website (ver. 644). The
latest available on the C-Media website is only ver. 639. I believe this
driver was written for an OEM vendor, but it worked well for me in WinXP and
appears to be working well in Vista as well; however, I have not yet tested
surround sound. I do know that with this driver, the mixer.exe does load and
on the first reboot after install it prompts you to choose your speaker
configuration. There is no gameport driver as previous versions of Windows
supplied a generic one that C-Media relies on (I tried one from
WinXP--doesn't work.)

You can get the 644 driver from here:

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SOUND-CARD/CMedia/CMedia-8738-v644.shtml

or a bunch of other locations by searching for "C-Media 644"

Confirmed that Vista does support surround sound with the CMI8738 ver. 644
driver. I have quadraphonic stereo speakers using the speaker out and line-in
jacks, and tests confirmed sound out of all 4 speakers. Can't think of any
reason to actually run the setup on the driver, just point the driver
location to where the files are. One thing I noticed is that Vista did not
save my speaker settings after reboot. Not sure why. I kept setting it from
stereo to quadraphonic and it finally seemed to take.
