I have set a network between 2 PCs with Windows 2000. I
use an eicon DSL router for the network with shared
internet access. All the drives on both computers are
accessable within the network accept for the main C;
drives on bpth PCs. Can anyone tell me why? and how I can
access the drives on the network? Thank you.

Are both computers in the same workgroup? Got File and printersharing
loaded? Got all useraccounts on both computers? Did you share the C-drive?

You don't have to manually share the C drive root on
Win2k Systems. You should be able to use a UNC map
(\\comupername\c$) or an IP map (\\IP\C$)but you will not
be able to see the drive in a regular browse

By default there will an admin share on each drive that is shared as drive letter+$. For instance, the C drive share will be c$. To
access this share go to Start>Run and type \\servername\c$ where server name is the name of the computer you want to
access.

Thank you,

....and so can anybody else who can get into your network. Hope you have a
firewall!!
Best practice in my opinion is to remove the default hidden shares from all
your W2K pcs - they are a security hole. There is a registry hack for this,
just search M$ knowledge base for "hidden shares." Also, make sure you
remove the "everyone" group and give only explicit access to your account
with a strong password (don't use administrator account). What is a strong
password? The combined use of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and
special characters (&%$#@) and minimum length of seven or eight characters.

Good luck.
