What operating system are you running? Could be a bad
sector on the disk is where the asms folder is located
causing Norton to run slow - I've seen this before. Do you
have a good backup? Do you have a disk utility CD (should
have come with the computer)? If you don't have one go to
the manufactures website, download, and run the disk
utility. Don't wait until the drive fails and you lose
data.
 
I have windows xp on gateway 700XL- I don't have a back
up disk. I have a system restoration disk for drivers
and an application restoration disk, is that what you
mean? Is a disk utility Cd the same as the restoration
disk? If not should I go to the microsoft website or the
gateway website? Thank you!! Calli
